Tips for Effectively Cleaning Commercial Carpet

Cleaning Carpet

For many people, an office space acts as a home away from home because many professionals end up spending as much or more time at the office than at their actual home. Because of this, great care should be taken in choosing the decor so you that you can provide a space where you, employees, and clients are all comfortable. Choosing commercial carpeting for your flooring is one way to create a homier feel, and there are many other benefits as well! Carpeting helps reduce noise (especially if anyone resides downstairs from you) and also acts as insulation which greatly reduces heat loss, reducing your energy costs across the board. While there are many great benefits of commercial carpeting, it does require some simple maintenance. Follow these simple tips on cleaning your commercial carpet to keep it looking great for years to come!

Vacuum Often

Regular vacuuming will help keep your commercial carpeting looking better longer. It might sound like a no brainer, but the number one cause for degradation of any carpet, commercial or residential, is not regularly vacuuming. Don’t wait until dirt and filth is visible. In order to keep your carpet looking as plush and clean as you desire, be sure to vacuum high traffic areas a couple of times a week, and areas walked on less frequently once a week at minimum. This will also help reduce dander levels that can affect the health of the people in the office!

Clean Spills ASAP

One way to make the deep cleaning and shampooing process easier is by attending to any spills when they happen. Using a cloth to absorb excess liquid and a spot remover to minimize setting of any stains will be a big factor in your carpet looking clean in the long run. This helps give yourself a leg up when you get to the deep cleaning stage of your carpet maintenance, and your carpet is more likely to stay looking fresh with these smaller spills being cleaned up immediately.

Choosing Your Cleaning Method

Different types of carpet and soil levels require different methods of cleaning using specific cleaning solvents or solutions to get the job done. Regardless of what kind of cleaning method you use, it is important to also begin by thoroughly vacuuming the entire area before anything else.

Encapsulation Method – This method is for cleaning oily or greasy carpet soiling while still allowing for productivity to continue while cleaning is taking place, which is a popular option for most businesses.

  • Vacuum
  • Spray encapsulation cleaner on area
  • Let sit for 15 minutes
  • Work solution into carpet with Bonnet machine
  • Let carpet dry (or use air mover)
  • Vacuum dried carpet

Hot Water Extraction – This steam cleaning method requires a more intensive process and is recommended for carpets in need of wide spread deep cleaning. This should not be done while people are working in the space that is being cleaned.

  • Vacuum thoroughly
  • Spray with cleaning chemical (consult your commercial carpet provider for guidance)
  • Scrub cleaning chemical into soiled area
  • Let sit for 10-15 minutes (do not let the chemical dry on carpet)
  • Use alkaline detergent and hot water to thoroughly rinse the soil
  • Use air movers to completely dry carpet prior to foot traffic.
